Marc....That's exactly my philosophy (even though I realise the satiric irony in your statement  ). I once knew a bloke who restored four YZ250Gs, and each one is exactly the same as the other. After he'd sorted out the collection and parked them in order of frame number, he restored a YZ250D just to be different! I saw him at CD3 and he was gushing about his new resto, a YZ250J, another white bike!
I've discussed this elsewhere in the past but I reckon that it's kind of dull to see a shed full of same colour clones (or, as in the above photo, two lots of same colour clones ). By spreading our interest spectrum outside of the safety circle we're both experiencing the diversity and broadening our involvement in our great sport/hobby. Until I went over to the 'dark side' and bought my Kawasaki Hindall basket case I was a rabid Maico fan (with the occasional DT1/RT1 Yamaha product thrown in to spread the load a little) with little interest in Kawasakis or any other Japanese marque, DT1 Yamahas aside. I still love my Maicos but now I've got a little United Nations of bikes in the shed and I'm thoroughly enjoying the experience of learning their inner workings. It worked for me.

Cant see the point of having more than 2 or 3 of the same year i would love to just have one 83 cr480 one tm 250 or 400 or maico or big rm sitting next to my PE400  i know people who have certian bikes in only certian years and like more than 5 of the same thing but thats fine too its their choice if i could i would have all the PE's but then it would be a shame as they probably wouldn't all get ridden so you can have thirty show room bikes or you can have 123456 that you ride all the time and enjoy using them for what they were made for not just to sit and look its a shame when the best machines of 70's and 80's don't get used its the same with cars aswell so many old fords valiants and holdens sit in sheds I always want to go riding but live where theres not much land to do it so i have to get dad to drive me to some where usually a fair way just to have a ride but its worth it Thanks Michael.

I agree Firko about a splash of color being nice, I have 73 MX250, Tm250, CR250, 75 KX250, 74 Cheney BSA, almost the full spectrum.

Everyone has there own genius reason for what VMX bikes they buy and god forbid it should ever be logical or about investment. Hell I built the HL500 to gazump my mates TT500s, the RM370 because thats what Peter Ploen had when I was a boy flag marshaling at Whakatane, the RM500 because it reminded me of my PE175Z, see all very good reasons.

jeez it's simple guys, just paint the bikes a different colour  I have red ones and orange ones, silver ones, blue ones, yellow and blue, white, black and plain yellow. I agree, it's really nice to have different colours smattering the garage like a Smartie packet even if they still are near all Suzuki's BTW, about the topic, the RM500, I think he's done a swell job. It is very individual and not the regular Bad Brad type replica you see so many of, others might hate it but it's been done properly and regardless of colours the same effort has gone into it. Not a bad thing at all

Yeah, I overlooked the main thread.......It is indeed a nice RM500. A question, how hard is it to fit the water cooled quad 500 engine into an RM frame? I think I've mentioned this before but I saw one at Laurie Aldertons workshop in Smithfield back in the late 80s. I wonder where that bike is now?

piece of cake I would say....busy wedging a Buell motor into C&J frame at the moment which is turned out a little problematic..... I would say always assume everything fits (special builders mantra), trade cert and TIG welding skills also help.
