Converting a single shock CR 500 into a twin shocker
« on: November 09, 2008, 12:38:38 am »
In have been considering converting a single shock front disc brake into a twin shocker, with a leading shoe front brake with a metal tank. I intend to remove the single shock mountings, add a set of fox shocks at the rear, use a set of yellow Simons on the front with a dual leading shoe for front breaks. In addition I intend to respray a similar profile Husky tank to the 78 Honda tank. I would look to create a CR 500 equivalent of a 1978 CR 250
Any thoughts, negative or positive greatly welcomed, suggestions, referrals, ideas all welcome.
I am aware of as similar project that was successfully completed in the UK. I accept that this project maybe referred to as a frankenstein time project, only consolation it will be a gem when finnished.
aLL PHOTOS WELCOME.
Many thanks

there a few bikes like this that have been featured in VMX magazine and Classic Drit Bike magazine.

i personally am not in favour of doing this and then being allowed to race these in older twin shock classes.

but yes you would get a good bike with a good rigid rear end.

Not into it. Seems a shame to do that sort of thing.

The front end looks like a cr250/480 83. Is this not a dutch bike? I seem to remember a thread on this in the past.

in the other thread it mentions that the forks are yamaha YZ 250 which is what i thought. the machining/shape up the top of the sliders looks oh so close to some yamaha XT/TT 600 forks of the same period.

good idea, that single shock and linkages is just unnecessary weight.  ;D

Anyway I am converting twin shock XL500 to monoshock with twin Fox Shox and Yamaha swingarm at the moment, why should KSI have all the fun. viva the sepcial builders.
