eBay Blasting Cabinets

Has anybody bought one of those bench top blasting cabinets off eBay?
They seem cheap enough and with lots to do on the CT90, I thought I'd give one a shot but thought I'd ask if anyone has had experience with them.
A company called Radum advertised them for $120.00 in Just Cars. Same size, so I rang them. All fine until I went to order, then it became $220.00 plus $90.00 freight due to "new stock"............   

Also, would glass bead be ok for alloy and to get light rust off the steel cylinder, footpegs etc?

Tony ,  Once you have purchased or made a blasting cabinet life is so much easier. The biggest hang up is the compressor and air reserve required to keep it consant .
Check to see what nozzels & sizes  come with gun               I use ceramic
I tend to use garnet on RUST   .... foot pegs - Etc           
Soda on carbs and alloy             made up a pot and charge pot with air

G`day have one in the workshop here and it is crap  fixed the problem with a snapon hand sandblaster now just use cabinet to hold the sand if you are in bris i am at cleveland   3821 6777 come and have a look robin

yep glass beads will be fine for alloy and small steel parts and cylinders/heads. I only use  Potters Ballotini Impact Spheres (glass beads) from Blastmaster in Adelaide. For big things like frames or tanks or parts with lots of thick rust or lots of paint i take it to the sandblasters where they use a garnet.

I have a free standing cabinet the same/similar to some of those that I have seen on Ebay. I does a good job on alloy engine parts using Potters Grade C Impact beads. My only problem is my compressor can't keep up with its air requirements, however, I am work on a new/ bigger compressor for a combined 50th birthday/christmas present.

I had one of those bench top sandblasting cabinets. The base is a V rather than an inverted pyramid, so the sand pickup keeps sucking an area empty and your forever moving it around to pick up more sand. In the end it becomes a pain in the butt. I gave it away and bought a large free standing unit from Trade tools for just under a grand and have lived happily ever after.

I have got one of the Radum free standing units and its been great. I buy a bit of stuff off Radum as their prices are usually good, quality is the usual el cheapo chinese standard but for items like a blast cabinet it doesn't matter that much.

I've been quite surprised how useful its been, I use it a lot more than I expected.
One job I have always hated is cleaning up sticking drum brake pivots, usually soak them and then wire brush scour etc. Now with the cabinet a quick blast and 30 sec later I'm done!
