hey simon...i think the 88 model is actually a 87 model...the tank stickers has the - cross through the Z on it.....
86 models were an s ....the 87 were t...88 were u.....besides that its a really nice bike..
are there any 84 honda CR500s on them containers....you no i like me 84 hondas ;D

Hi andrew it is a 88 model by the vin number sorry if it has the wrong decals on it but you will have to live with that
