Fresh blood
« on: December 26, 2017, 11:06:42 pm »
Hi All,

Very new to this, started out a couple of years ago when the young fella was capable to ride a bike, being strapped for cash I couldnt pass up a 85 QR50 for $150 off facebook.  Gave it a bit of love and 7 years on it is on to its 2nd set of cousins. Moved town a while ago and managed to pick up an 81 xr500 for a whopping $50. The kick starter shaft was snapped but other than that it seemed to be pretty much complete. Doesnt seem to be mich wear on anything but think it must have happened early on and it has been parked up ever since. Have ot stripped down now and frame and cases blasted and ready to start reassembly as soon as I can get the necessary bits together. If anyone has any words of wisdom to pass on with this model or any honts/tricks/mods that should be done let me know.

Thanks for adding me look forward to keeping you updated with the build

Welcome to the asylum.
I’d be surprised if there is anything you can’t find out about an ‘81 XR500 on this site.
It’s a treasure trove of knowledge. And enthusiasts more than willing to share.

Pictures are always appreciated (but some of us are gun shy after the photobucket ransom episode)
