Hard to get it right.
My parents thought mini bike racing was as dumb as a box of hammers. Because it was all I wanted to do, they would reluctantly supply a bike, and drop me at the track. My father never washed a bike of mine, nor worked on one without me helping. (As I'd be doing that particular job by myself next time.)
I consider myself very fortunate (But would have loved a little enthusiasm)
A while back, while doing my usual trick of being the oldest, slowest rider, having the most fun at a club MX day, the teenager pitted near by was actually crying, whilst pleading with his father that "I just want to ride for fun". The father was deaf to it. Replying that "finishing 3rd in the next race would secure his place in the championship".
I was lucky.
I'm still "Only riding for fun".
