My last attempts at this VMX malarkey on vintage Euro machinery didn't go so well.


So, I figure I might get back into it with something less esoteric, and with plenty of other Suzukis in the garage try and find something I'm more familiar with.

I'm looking for as much as possible an original (yeah, I know) PE or RM, complete, running but condition not so much an issue as I'll be doing a resto or at least getting it up to some sort of race standard.

As stated, I'd prefer a T, but will settle for an N - I don't really want to go back much further than that as I want to race (as competitively as possible!) in Evo.

Please PM me if anyone has a bike they're wanting to sell, or knows of one.

The engines are quite different. No primary kickstart on the RM
79/80 N/T is RM
80/81/82 -T/X/Z is PE
There is no 79 N PE400
RM can be hard to find good gear box parts for
PE is bit hard to get pistons for at the moment but someone is making a batch in USA right now.
which ever way you go consider budgeting for a spare parts motor as well as parts can be hard to get.

mate has a PE 250 z in rebuilt condition, goes pretty good. not sure if 400 is a killer requirement...

Yeah, I have imported a bike from the US before.

Would be more of a last resort sort of a thing as it is a bit of a rigmarole, and the Aus/US dollar exchange isn't all that great at the moment...

Ah, cool , thanks for that.

I do know that both the RM and the PE can be a little problematic with parts - the plan is to grab a bike that hopefully doesn't need too much in the way of repairs or refurbishment.

Hmm...

A 400 is not necessarily the be-all and end-all.
I'm just thinking of something that will comfortably haul my fat arse around at 100 kg with all my gear on, without being too ridiculous like a 465/500...

well it comfortably hauls my 90 kg arse with all gear on quite well. has had a full mechanical refurbishment with new rod seals piston etc, new hagon shocks fork seals wheel bearings tubes tyres, muffler is a custom build new carby cables chain and sprockets pretty much everything other than new plastics. is club reg currently. contact quiggs 66 on this forum for details

Are the PE 400 X&Z still twin shock?

I might just do that.

Does it have a compliance plate, do you know?

Yep pretty much all the same, just some minor refinements in 81 and 82.

the bike is in central vic...not far from Harrow ::)
