That length will work on RM N's and T's also . I had a pair that length on my RM 250T and they were great shocks. From memory the stock RM N & T shocks are about 387mm eye to eye

No they re too short for  250/400 NT. They need to be 397mm. Thats what my 1980 Ohlins catalogue lists but often the Ohlins fitments were a little longer. Eg for the PE they had 409mm but stock is 400mm. Off the top of my head the RM shocks are a few mm less than 397mm, 394 or 395?? I got a stock set so could check. In any case 385 is too short for the 79/80.
Wanted - 1978 TS185 frame or frame&motor. Frame # TS1852-24007 up to TS1852-39022

Yes , about 395mm sounds right. I slipped the forks up 10mm or so to match from memory. The N/T's are a leggy bike anyway and was a help with the steering. The 385 ohlins were the closest thing I could get at the time without spending a bomb. Later I got a professionally cut down pair of ITC shocks from the US for my 250T. They were very good also but it's splitting hairs trying to compare them. The ITC's were slightly plusher and didn't bottom out as harshly
