Trials Bike
« on: August 10, 2008, 08:21:16 pm »
I'm buying the young bloke his first bike this xmas.

I'm think a trials bike would be a good thing to follow him around on.

Never ridden one but the more I look at them the more I like them.

There's a couple of TY's on ebay at the  moment.

Any advice appreciated, maybe I only need an SL or something similar.

regards,

AJ

Trials are good discipline to learn how to move over a bike. Balance  the weight and set up the next challenge and brake presicley.

TY are a good easy to ride bike spesh the 175 which in MHO were the pick of the yamaha line up.

I agree, trials bikes are a whole heap of fun. So are XL100's and such but trials bikes moreso. Nimble, light as a feather, goes wherever you point it (sometimes) quiet, cheap on fuel, and best of all, you can ride as slow as you like and no-one laughs, actually the slower you go the better they think you are  ;D

Perm,

He's 5. I'll get him a PW or similar.

I was thinking of the TY for myself.

I agree an XR75 would be great when he gets older.

AJ

Yes AJ Yamaha TYs are a great fun playbike. Having a low seat and tank also means you can easily double kids in front of you with their feet resting on the engine cases.
My 18kg son can ride a PW50 like a demon but still loves being doubled around on my trials bikes.
The 175 and 250 are both nice to ride. The 250 is roomy with good ergonomics and the 175 is very light (about 82kg). Both feel like featherweights to ride compared with trail bikes of the same era.
Here is one of my kids at about 18 months.

Feetupfun,

What do you think of the '76 TY175C on ebay at the moment.

What it's worth roughly.

Apparently it's a runner but the tank's no good.

Now that is a happy photo Feetup! Mate, that's gold for the album.
