Wide footpegs on mid 70's KX
« on: May 09, 2016, 06:54:36 PM »
Anybody else tried fitting late model wide pegs to mid 70's KXs? Wanting to know what pegs would work best on my 75 KX250 with the least amount of modification. Cheers.

personally - and not everybody's kettle of fish - I take my standard pegs off - send them to Geoff Morris who works his magic on then and when they return I know they will fit and be an excellent job.

Thanks for the reply but I don't want to do anything to my standard pegs if I can help it.

I fitted a set of these to my 76 KX400 A2 with very little modification. only needed to grind a small amount off the pin post.

I also fitted a set to my 79 KX250 A5.

Hope that helps.  :)

Thanks Hardo, looks like a good option, I was interested if the pegs sit at the right angle from the frame ie no droop? I'll pick up a set on ebay and see how I go with them, they're cheap enough and if they worked on your KX's then they should work on mine too. Thanks again for the help.

All depends on how worn your frame strike plates are mate. You may need to spot a few weld lines on the peg stop flats. I had to on one of my bikes. Easy enough mod.

Fitted the footpegs to my 75 KX250. Had to grind about 1.5 mm off the pin mount on the peg and I also ground off the stops at the top of the peg so that they fold up higher (I was concerned that the stops may cause the pegs to jam in the mount in an up position if the bike hit the deck hard enough), other then that it was an easy fit, didn't even have to drill out the pin mount holes on the frame. There is a negligible amount of droop that is barely noticeable when looking at them and I couldn't notice it at all when sitting on the bike. All in all very happy with the recommendation. Thanks Hardo.

Hey no dramas guys. I am glad I have helped you blokes out.

I fitted them to my 1989 KX250, however I remember I had to drill the holes out to 10mm (they come with 8mm pivot pin holes). I used a good drill press with loads of lube due to being stainless. Worked a treat.
