Triumph 750 twin gearbox drain plug
« on: May 04, 2016, 02:53:46 pm »
G'day viewers & yes I know your thinking it's not VMX but I'm sure there's a few engines in dirt bikes over the years. Anyways I have this engine a triumph T140 1976/77 model & I'm trying to locate the gearbox drain plug. It's not ware the repair manual says it is. Right hand side kick starter side it does not have a drain plug for the gearbox. So any information would be appreciated. Jimson

Take another look. It is directly facing the ground at the bottom of gear box case floor. Near it you will also see a taller hex, thats detent plunger for the cam plate, don't unscrew that one. You will need to get on your hands and knees and possibly use a torch if the motor is in the frame as its buried up underneath and bit hard to see.

That drawing is very mis-leading. Plug D/C are no where near there. That plug is directly under the motor in the middle sort of. When you drain it it comes out near the center stand. I normally put a container between the center stand feet. You need to poke your head right up under the bike to see it. You will need a socket on long extension too.

Thanks for your help LWC, I will have a look when I return home & see. I've been laying down with a torch & couldn't see the bloody thing. Jimson

Thanks LWC I found it & your right the picture is very deceiving, thanks for your help. I'm just that much closer to the blue slip. Jimson
