YZ250T rear hub and brake plate
« on: April 12, 2016, 09:40:50 pm »
YZ250 rear hub and brake plate. This seems to be in good nick but no idea why I have it. A lot of dirt and oil on it, but I cleaned a portion off and it looks like pretty good paint underneath. Brake plate comes with lever, cable and brake shoes with a fair bit of meat on them. No bearings or spacer tube.  The bushes in the brake plate seem fine.

I believe it to be for a 1987 model YZ250 (wreckers markings), if so it fits the following:
1983 YZ250K REAR WHEEL YZ250K L
1985 TT600N REAR WHEEL
1985 YZ250N REAR WHEEL
1986 TT350S REAR WHEEL
1986 TT600S REAR WHEEL
1986 YZ250S REAR WHEEL
1987 MOTOCROSS - YZ250T REAR WHEEL
1987 TT350T REAR WHEEL

$75 plus postage. Please post interest as an answer to this post rather than as a PM.

Can you see any prefix alpha numeric cast into the recess on the brake side Graeme? Perhaps 23X-00. Please measure the drum Dia and post it up mate.

130mm ID, and the prefix 3R4 as far as I can see. So it's a YZ250G hub?

3r4 YZ250G Hub, what do you see on the backing plate, 3R4 as well? From memory, the length of the boss on the backing plate differs for various models plus that one has the spring for the lever return and an alloy lever so that part may be from a later model like say a N,S,T.  Also the G has a small axle and the later models have the larger axle. What is the bore Dia in the backing plate please Graeme.

You're right. The brake plate is 23X-00. Axle size 19mm (both the bore on the plate, and the ID of the wheel bearing still in the hub is about 19.3mm).

So the brake plate is likely to be 83 YZ250 onwards and the hub is most likely from a YZ250J (same over all as a 3R4 casting but has the larger axle and therefore larger bearing bores).

I would take a guess and say the wrecker pulled the wheel from a YZ250T that had previously been retrofitted with the earlier model YZ wheel due to the previous owner not wanting/not able to repair the Z spoke Hub which was fitted as oem equipment.

Just a guess

So I would say that this hub would be a direct fit for YZ250J and could be fettled (use different spacer combinations) to fit up to 87 as 88 went to rear disc.

The brake plate should be correct for every YZ250 between 83 and 87 inclusive.

Hope this helps
