And the winner is.........  ;)

The article says the YZ490 is fastest to the first turn.  In all the 40+, 50+ and Open Class races I have watched over the years I have never seen a YZ490 beat the CR480's to the first turn.

we had a YZ490 in the Classic club here that every time would hands down beat the CR500s to the first corner - and a very competent pilot on the 500 who just said he couldn't do it.  Well sorted they fair fly apparently.
