Mototek CDI for XR75
« on: October 01, 2015, 04:51:26 am »
My XR75 project came with a Mototek CDI unit installed.  I could not find a part number for a Mototek for an XR75 in any of the old catalogs.  YZ80 and RM80 yes, but no XR75 in 1977-78.  Anyone here ever run one on your XR75 back in the day?

I tried one back in the day on a 74 XR75. Also tried to run one on my YZ80C.  I never had success with them. My take is that they are a glorified chainsaw set up with dubious timing and advance control.

Unless you are going for the retro look, the sensible alternative is to get the straight bolt on CDI set up from a later model ('93 on) XR80 or, with a bit of adaption, from a CRF50.

If you love it, lube it.

Yep Momus is being very correct and honest injun! I remember peeling the Mototek sticker off one of their coils and glueing it on a stocker XR one.... ::)

Conversely I actually run a genuine full 1974 Mototek CDI setup on my 754 Pre75 sidecar...  ;)

Quickly piss that non-air filter off, for a quality functional one please...

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
