Broken 10mm Cylinder Stud in my 360 Yam.
« on: May 13, 2015, 09:14:07 pm »

Forgotten how to work photobucket so hope this arrives as intended.
Had a bugger of a day removing cylinder studs from the cases of my RT2 rat bike & of course one had to break of--at the exact moment 'Prince Harry'  just about took the tops off the trees behind my shed in an army helicopter. Hope he didn't hear what i said at that moment lol. We're in a direct flight line between Ohakea airbase & Linton military camp--anyway, got the bugger out after much blood from the vicies slipping off the little plates. Was 'well' loctited in & my little lpg bottle was going flat out with little effect so drilled into the base behind the stator plate [left rear stud] & turned the bike upsidedowm then crc in the hole & more heating but wouldn't budge. Just before dark i got a fraction back & forth which was something, so kept heating & moving [not much] but slowly got more till it gave up. Have to go away for the day tomorrow & would have been grumpy all damn day if i hadn't got it out--taken me all bloody day, god i hate days like that. Was too hard to drill [plus i didn't want too]. This trick works a treat although i must admit i thought this stud had beaten me. Was arc welding using high tensile rod & lots of amps [max], & stud was flush with the case. No case damage afterwards luckily. Cheers & Have a Happy Day lol.

Hi, yes think they might be nickel rods of some sort , look coloured in the finish & the flux jumps off & hits you in the eye just as you lift the shield lol. By memory it doesn't spark when grinding [been a while]--had a few little bits of rod left over & not realy sure what they were!! but not general purpose rods. Cheers.
