Front tire choice for Barleigh ranch flat track

Just seeing if anyone is going to give the secrets away on the flat track front tire choices,
For barleigh ranch.
For the vintage bikes .

The track has been a bit of everyyhing of late, deep and soft in parts andback to hard base in other parts so I would go for an intermediate knobby.

I still reckon this front tyre business is really intriguing. I've seen every sort of tyre imaginable put to use and nearly everyone reckons something different. Intermediate, hard, soft, trail, you name it. I am running a Dunlop MX52 and it seems pretty good, plenty of other guys on it too. I also have a Dunlop MX71 (soft tyre, for a hard track) on my 1980 RM250 and it works much better than the 52 at Canberra (deco surface). But there are even guys at Canberra who swear by Michelin S12s! A tall block hard tyre, exactly the opposite of what you'd expect is needed.

To be honest I suspect anything at all is fine - if you ride hard enough it probably don't matter really.

I'm very disappointed that Dunlop has dropped the MX71's, I loved em on hard ground, you can get away with most tyres on soft ground without any major scares, but hard, slippery ground, right there I want the best sticking tyre.

Yep, that 71 is magic on a hard surface isn't it?  Though I wonder how some of those adventure type tyres would go in those conditions, eg the MT60 Pirelli?

Graeme, I have looked at those tyres on the shelf and wondered the same.. Is the compound soft enough?

I don't know Brett, I've done the fingernail test on a few of those and the MT60 seems the softest. Who knows? I also wonder about the Dunlop AT81 - low wide profile, stiff sidewalls to allow low pressures without undue flex, good intermediate tyre and works well on blue groove.

Yep good on blue, hope it does not rain as it would be shocking in mud....
