1977 Maico AW440
« on: February 04, 2015, 02:31:33 pm »
Can you guys give me some thoughts on this bike, good -bad is it a competitive pre 78 bike ? I have the opportunity to purchase one in pristine condition. Its more of a show bike than a racer but that can change, what do you think the general value is these days ? Just asking ! I don't know much about Maico's.
Cheers

Certainly competitive in pre '78 but a few things: the down pipe while making good power is vunerable, the 440 engine is a bit abrupt & vibrates, then you have the archaic Maico clutch. Hard to get right & usually either slipping or dragging. The 400 engine is a much nicer, user friendly engine IMO. Just my observations form campaigning an AW440 a while back, I much preferred my mates AW400.

AW440-the bee's knees, the ducks guts, the ants pants,a wider torque curve than Oprahs arse and pretty as springtime in the bavarian alps.

Mate do it, I have a 77 aw 400 and love it! A 440 would even be better ....
They handle great and power wise are fine compared to the rm 370's .   ;D
My fastest lap is the first one :)
