Log books

I've heard that Log books are going to be introduced for VMX.
How do these things work? How and who will give them out? Can a bike get one if the owner is not a MA licence holder or does the rider of a borrowed bike have to apply?

Not to sure but if it is like Classic roadrace you have to supply photos of the bike with race numbers on, then if the Log book police deem your bike to be ok you get a book that is signed each time it goes through scut.
The road race guy's hate them with a passion.

The "road race guys" asked for log books to be introduced because they were sick of eligibility problems and arguments at every meeting they attended.
This system works well for Historic Road Race, but I cannot see that it is required for VMX meetings.
Historic Road Race machines can be built up from parts of various makes and models, and this rarely happens in VMX.

Lets just leave this alone for now.

I get the idea of log books, and I don't disagree.
But...

Lots of old dirt bikes simply get dragged out of sheds, given the once-over and are taken racing.
Demanding that they all have log books will be a crimp on that, and will likely reduce participation.

If there's a requirement for bikes to be taken to an inspection before the logbook will be issued, then this will make the problem even worse, particularly for us punters who don't live in a large city.

Probably not!! 

I'm done my part.  For it to happen it would have to go through MA and be discussed at the Commission meeting. Then MA would send the minutes out to the SCBs (states) and they would send replies.  The Commission meets again and finalises their minutes.  Those minutes are then sent to the MA Board to be approved or rejected.

So what is said here doesn't mean a lot although maybe a poll on the subject wouldn't hurt.

My guess is a State committee or a club has suggested the idea.  But why anyone would want to make more work that will just get ignored? 

Also note if it did occur it could be for Classic/Post Classic MX & DT.

My vote is no we don't need it.

Kevin has confirmed that there is a push from somewhere to make it happen. Perhaps they could come on and make their case so that we all know who is pushing it.

If it did my bikes would definetly stay in the shed. I wouldn't bother going through all that so that someone else could have a ride.

My vote would be no as well.

I don't think Graeme is opposed to intelligent discussion, I think it's more to do with personal attacks, (whether unfounded or not) and all the angst that goes with it.


Does this log book rumour only include the Nationals or will it spread out to other events?
Either way as said already it will make it too hard for guys that have multiple bikes, guys that ride once in a blue moon and guys that decide to ride at the last minute.

I haven't confirmed anything and I don't know of anyone suggesting it.

Why would someone come on the forum with this anyway.

How about we say why it wouldn't work and maybe if Graeme agreed have a poll.

If someone does propose it the results of a poll could be sent to MA to be passed onto the commission.

We need positive things not panic and hysteria.
