Horror crash near Broadford
« on: January 28, 2015, 07:49:45 pm »
The first thoughts of just watching this on tonight's news is, I wish that some of our negative energy could turn positive by recruiting and encouraging just one of our younger generation to the classic motocross empire.  :)
Yes I know they take your trophy's, wreck your bikes and push you off the track, but its nothing compared to the suffering that these families are going through tonight.

After all who's going to ride your bikes when your gone.
Rant over and happy racin in 2015.  :)

 Very sad.

I have to wonder about how ineffective the wire rope 'barrier' was in this situation. These barriers are everywhere and are also a serious hazard to motorcyclists on the road. A section of armco might have offered superior retardation or deflection in this event? If a road warrants a barrier why not do it properly?
WANTED. Canams;all models,complete or parts.SWM stuff too!

Sobering stuff.
Obviously they are not feeling any pain, unlike their poor families. Very sad stuff.

I feel pretty safe whilst traveling divided roads like the sections of M1 Hume Hwy etc on the speed limits.
Well when in a car anyhow. I don't like the look of those Wire stranded cheese grater things when I am on a bike though.
I rarely feel safe on country roads, especially after seeing some of the stuff appearing at excessive speeds from blind crests and bends from the opposite direction. Out of control and on the wrong side of the road.

I suppose these mobile speed traps make more money when deployed in areas of higher traffic volumes instead.

I believe that those rope type safety barriers are the worst "safety" barrier I have seen. A motorcyclist running fowl of one of those evil devices would be mincemeat. They should all be removed. In that horror crash refered to on the TV news I wondered if the vehicle could have become airborne after sliding up the ropes that are anchored in the ground? pancho
dont follow me i'm probably off line!

P plater driving a prohibited v8, high speed, drugs and drug paraphernalia found in the wreckage, heading back from a drug buy in Melbourne maybe.... All too often a scene.  I feel sorry also for the ambos firies etc. when they have to attend these scenes. Having done training in high speed collisions, I can tell you without any measurements at all that this vehicle was well and truly over the speed limit. Can Am, the vehicle left the road prior to the start of the rope barrier, and the vehicles point of impact with the trees was several feet off the ground due to the nature (hillside) of the spot. I believe ( but am happy to be corrected by anyone who may have better knowledge on this) that wire barriers are only designed to slow down a vehicle, not stop it. i have no doubt that wire barriers are terrible things to hit for us motorcyclists, but to play the devils advocate, at least they have some give , trees do not. Armco railing would have been just as ineffective in this particular case.

It turns out all the young men in the car were motocross riders, I guess many of us live on the edge?

With regard the wire-rope barriers, they make it hard with regard kangaroos, if they jump the fence (rather than edging up to the road), they end up smack on the road in front of you, roos paws get no traction on the bitumen as they try to scramble out of your way.

While I feel for all the families who are no doubt asking why, how, what for in between tears, and all the emergency crews who have to live with the sight of 4 dead and battered young bodies for probably the rest of their lives, at least they didn't take out any innocent road user this time. Regardless of them being MXriders or not......Fluck with drugs and you will lose!
Arrogance.....A way of life for the those that having nothing further to learn.

Every so often the planets align and an arse hole gets caught.  Coming home yesterday afternoon I was followed by a tailgating prick in a v8 ford ute for about 5 or 6 miles at the speed limit.  When we came into the 60 zone at Kearsley it was more than he could stand so he passed me over the double lines and was still on the wrong side of the road entering the school zone.   Then around the corner comes the prettiest hwy patrol car I have ever seen, on went the lights then a big youie behind me, passed me and caught him half way up the next hill. My god those things get up to speed quick.
Gave the cop the thumbs up as I went passed hopefully lost enough points the get the bastard off the road for a while.

providence does strike occasionally! a mate used to be  a holden dealer workshop foreman around VK interceptor time. he said the motors were only getting 20K before the heads needed recoing cos the officers in charge would wait till they had a fast bunny on the radar then they had an excuse to "lite er  up" not just the flashing ones.... the cars would sit for 20 - 30 minutes and cool down then suddenly be at 6500 rpm! the valve stems all scrubbed out.
