nicely made titanium trials bike frame
« on: November 24, 2014, 01:30:35 pm »
cool looking titanium frame recently made for a 1989 Honda RTL (4 stroke air cooled trials bike)

I see the frame is pressurised with gas and am guessing it is to detect cracks (like on a crane jib)

Neat job

The fittings in the frame tubes may have been for the Argon in order to purge the tubes for welding?

They may well have had argon on the inside for the welding, but if it was just for that, they probably wouldn't need the pressure gauge and the schrader valve

Interesting.

The foot peg/brake pedal pivot drop downs formed from light gauge sheet are nice

Shame about the curves in the back bone and front down tubes being notch, bend, weld.

Operating at that level you would think organising proper bending would be a given.
If you love it, lube it.

Yeah it was just a guess.
Maybe they fill it full of Helium and make it lighter still :o

I thought the same, it's the easy option if you don't have a powerful tube bender but he has used a few pressed sections and machined sections that wouldn't have been easy either

The whole thing would have been very hard work. Imagine moving that frame around inside a Argon filled tent even if it was on a rotatable jig. I can see why they did the lobster back in the frame, that would have taken some very specialised equipment or lots of practice to get that right.Would love to see a bit more of the build. Nice to see gussets done as they should.

He says the frame is pressurised. Not stable pressure = coming soon problem ;D
