Sodbuster from the NW Plains
« on: November 11, 2014, 08:08:31 pm »
G'day Old Dirt Bike People,I built my first bike using Dad's old Villiers pump motor and hard tyres, then moved up to a BSA Gold Flash($30 in1970)at the age of 12,then had many after that. The bikes I wish I still had include 1975 YZ250(strap on white tank-rare even then),YZ125D,RM125 X,and the Gold Flash 650cc,1950 model with plunger heel rear suspension.

These days our shed is full of Hondas,my 450 X gets to Fraser Island at least once a year, runs on avgas and has the best seat since my old IT 250.

I am known for Modifying or Making things,Including the Goondiwindi Gate, and when I was 19,Les Peardon and myself convinced Noel Stitt and the Qld Acu to allow one day race licences for the Darling Downs MX Series,I am also involved in the North Star Trailride(last Full weekend in July)which is the largest trail ride in Australia(checkout the Facebook page and you tube)and is open to everyone, and  has become a Mecca for vintage MX and Enduro Bikes.Motto "If your not Living on the Edge you are taking up to much space"

Welcome aboard, you sound like a motivated sort of chap. Have you moved with the times or do you still pine for an old Beesa?

Yes I do have a soft spot for the old British bikes,in fact we had 2 Gold Flashes ,which we rode around the farm,as well as 2 Triumphs,no one told us you weren't supposed to jump them,my brother stil has the Triumphs, but we sold the BSA's and bought DT250 and DT 400.After "racing" the DT 250 at the first race at Gundy in 1975,I realised that I needed to upgrade and bought Vince Strang's (Josh's father)YZ250.

Yes,I won the"Cross Up"competition when Geoff Eldridge came to Gundy in1979,if anyone has that copy there is a photo of Vince Strang doing a no hander to flat landing, the first time I had seen anyone do it,I won a ADB jersey(I am still waiting for it).We have had a couple of articles on the North Star Trailride, and we had one of their journo's at the last one, just search North Star Trailride ADB.Next year is the Goondiwindi MCC's 40th anniversary,we wil be doing some thing at one of the club days later in 2015,so anyone who is interested let me know, hopefully we can get our most successfully former club member,Troy Bayliss,to come out.

I had to buy my adb jersey, no amount of scheming would get H Muz to part with one....
