help needed with finding pistons for ty175 1977
« on: July 06, 2008, 07:05:07 pm »
hey guys i ordered a piston for a ty..i had the bore done then on assembly i noticed the piston sat too high at tdc, i took it out and compared it and its totally different..it was a dt175..i rang the distributor.pro x, and he said they had no listing for ty..so now it seems i may be stuck with the dt175..(any takers 66.5mm) does anyone know where i can get a non genuine piston ..or perhaps what other modles also ran the same one thanks..

How big are the holes in the piston skirt?
If they're big enough to put your finger through, then you've got a late model DT piston.
If they're itty-bitty little ones (about 10x10mm) then you've got a problem.

Of course, the real measurement is the centre of the gudgeon to the edge of the piston crown - bet that the piston you've got is 5mm taller than the TY piston (ie: late DT).

Early DTs take the same piston as TY, I think. I'll check tomorrow for you.
Wiseco do early DT pistons.

Failing that, get a short (100mm centre to centre) rod from a late DT from ProX.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Nathan,
Try http://tytrials.co.uk in the UK. I am sure they can help you.

Pro-X make good piston kits for TY175/early DT175 and are quieter than Wiseco. Ask for DT175 A,B,C,D
