DT360a motocrosser.

Hi Guys,
Im was thinking about hanging up my boots with the whole Enduro/Reliability racing thing (2011 ktm300exc) as its now time to focus on my 2 boys within the motocross scene.

Then i had a idea of getting myself an old hack to do a few laps on every now and then to help with the adrenalin. So why not get an old pre 75 and have a go at motocross myself.

My question is, is this a good option of bike as i was after something i could throw a light and rego on and still compete in the 24hr we have here in SA.

Any feedback (good or bad) is welcome.

Look at the rego requirements for your state. Can you use historic rego for example? I know in NSW a bike build in 74 does not need to comply with todays laws. So you maybe able to use say a MX 360 for example and still do the 24 hour thing?
Current bikes. KTM MC 250 77 Husky CR 360 77, Husky 82 420 Auto Bitsa XR 200 project. Dont need a pickle just need to ride my motorcickle

A DT250/360A is not a bad choice for what you're considering - cheap, durable, decent performance and easy upgrade to MX parts if you want it to go faster.
BUT you'd need balls of steel to attempt the 24 on any short travel bike. It would be seriously tough going (noting that the bloke on the TT500 seemed to be doing very well when I saw him this year):

If it was me, I'd go for the newest era of VMX bike that has a class that's run in SA.

How about digging up a Canam250 TnT? Its got lights, more go and is lighter than the 360, and can be easily converted to a pre75 mx'er. Just sayin'........
WANTED. Canams;all models,complete or parts.SWM stuff too!

The guy on the TT500 was Shane Kraft from the Keyneton MCC, who is one of the 500 Yamaha stalwarts who run the 500 Yamaha Muster.  I did see in the results that he retired at the end of the 2nd lap, however as I havn't spoken with him since before the event I don't know what the reason was.

Later shocks are OK, providing you stay with 4" of travel at the axle.

Forks need to be visually identical to parts that were available on a 1974 (or older) model AND have a maximum of 7" of travel.
The rules don't specify it, but the widespread understanding is that you can do whatever you want to the internals - they have to look like Pre-75 parts from the outside.

Im in Adelaide and i have plenty or Dt250/360 and easy enough to sell you one and point you in the right direction of racing in SA
