Nepean Gearing
« on: July 01, 2014, 10:41:14 am »
OK, this isn't exactly 'vintage' track. But I'm thinking of riding at the St George clubday in a couple of weeks and wondered what gearing Nepean requires. I'll be on a modern YZF250 (though might take the 1980 RM250 as well).

Is Nepean similar to Canberra, or a bit longer/faster?  I'm running 14/50 for Canberra which works OK for the longtrack configuration there, that's about 2 teeth taller at the rear than stock.

Any ideas?

Hi Graeme,
not sure about the moderns but I run the same gearing at Canberra that I do at Nepean,
the straight may be a little longer at Nepean so if you are running out of gears at canberra you may want an extra tooth on the front,
Noel

Generally, 1 up on the front or 3-5 down on the rear from standard gearing is a good start.

So, not too different to Canberra... I am about 2 down on the rear over stock so will leave it as is and bring a couple of smaller rears just in case. I expect to be a bit slow as I learn the track so my current gearing will probably be good enough.

Just noticed your post Brett. No, didn't make it... I'd forgotten it was my wife's birthday that weekend and I'd committed to some girly things with her!!!  Doh...  But if you come over to Canberra for the St George day here in september I should be there.  #136 YZF250.
