Throttle cables - RM250T/RM250Z
« on: July 12, 2014, 03:05:27 pm »
I have a small problem with my RM250T. I bought a new throttle cable only to find that the throttle assembly is what looks like an 82 one (which appears the same for a lot of the 82/83/84s). Now, I was thinking of trying to find a decent 250T assembly, but it occurs to me the cheaper way to go is just buy an 82 cable. I *think* the (damaged) cable already on it is an 82, so I have an 82 assembly, 82 cable, and a round slide carby as is original for the T. My question is, should the 82 cable work on the 80 carb? I am pretty sure it will given that's what seems to be on there right now.

Or put another way, can I fit an 82 throttle assembly and cable to the round slide carby on a 1980 RM250T?

Probably not much help mate , but the std throttle on my RM 125S 1975 is the same as the std throttle on my RM 125X 1981 ( save the X one is painted black ) they were the same in 76,77,78,79,80,81 but not sure about 82.

Its only old bike racing FFS get over yourselves

Pretty sure they changed in 82 to the style that works  at least to 1988.
I have owned 1982,83,84,85, and 88 RM"s and they are all the same.
The 81 is as Bill said different.
Hope that helps.
