Yep it was a grouse track.it had a mother of a downhill after the corner in photo 2. wide an fast everywhere, good fun in the mud as well,
Mortlake is on the Hamilton Hwy near Warnambool, about 2.5 Hrs from Melbourne.what a waste :(Gellibrand is another :(

I had the pleasure of going to Mortlake on a freezing cold June day with Ray Ryan in 2002 or so to watch a vintage meeting. I vowed that I'd come back one day to race there, I was so impressed. The track was built inside an extinct volcano and was unlike any other track I've ever seem. I undersood that they still race there once a year but maybe that's changed. It's a shame if it has.

Politics ,towns people infighting , clubs not sticking together, unimpressed property owners. another unique fantasic old racing  venue is turned to a shitfight and off maybe forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tim >:( You can not actually see how steep the track is all around in the photos, no jumps not needed, and the track is inside the old crater of the volcano !!!!!!!!!!1

I wonder if there would be a possibility of running a VCM/VIPER practice day there at some stage? Like the broadford/ wonthaggi ones we had? Does anyone have contacts to give it a whirl? We need more chances to burn the castor oil.. and have some fun on a different circuit.
