XR200 - wheelie king
« on: March 02, 2014, 07:38:26 pm »
Just had to share this photo of an XR200 winning the wheelie comp at Surfers Paradise raceway back in about 1980-ish. The guy was brilliant - wonder who he was?

Yep, and the missus in skimpy shorts and a little top - they'd not be out of place down on the esplanade.

it was  any one  with an xr 200... come on "anyone" can wheelie an xr 200. quote from ADB.. "we chained a black Labrador to it and it was doing 600m wheelies in 15 minutes"

The photo was taken at a road race meeting at Surfers Paradise Raceway. For a few years there they had a wheelie competition in the lunchbreaks. Most of the riders were on roadies but there were always a handful of dirtbikes. And yeah, I guess an XR200 is pretty easy to wheelie. I think I have a photo somewhere of someone trying to wheelie a Ducati 750SS at one of these lunchtime shindigs, that looked like it took some effort.  I think the best roadbike wheelie was by a guy called Tony on a GS1000S, I think he went on to have some success roadracing.

If its the same Tony as I think it is he could also get these XR 200's ( and most anything else ) cracking as well. He had access to some very trick parts from Honda back then.
