It's scary close to the one I almost bought Rusty. It was painted purple with a blue ghost flame job (which would have been gone within a week of me buying it!) and it had Boyd Coddington wheels that also would have got the flick. It also had the 400/400/9" combo so I wonder if it's the same car? I like the Chevy Rallye wheels on yours and you've given me an idea about repurposing the Mexican blanket that's on my bed as we speak. You and I have very similar tastes in wheeled vehicles my friend!

This is what I originally wanted, a '72 El Camino SS 454. back in my California days a good mate had an identical car to the one in the photo and I often rode in and occasionally drove it and loved the power of the LS7 454 and clunky Muncie 4 speed. I was considering buying one from the USA and even tried to gently push Tahitian Red to sell his, unfortunately with no result . Now by fate (or luck), I've become a Ranchero owner despite being a lifelong GM and Mopar guy. I'd never really taken much notice of the Rancheros but now I've got mine I'm pretty pleased I made the cross over. If I'd bought a big block El Camino it would have become a bit like my Jag, an occasional Sunday cruiser due to the petrol sucking big block engine milking my self funded pension. The little 302 in the Ranchero sounds tough without having the huge thirst and parts are available at Supercheap.

I knew there something I liked about you. 

If I were buying another Chevelle/El Camino I would get one with a 350.  My favorite car was my Lime Green '70 Challenger 340 w/ a pistol grip 4 speed.  Easy and fun to drive without busting the bank.

Very nice ute Firko, i do like the look of the faded paint, there are a few old american pickup's etc just around the corner from work at Sutto's classic restorations that are actually getting painted like that.

Hows this '66 Ranchero?....the front clip is exactly the same as our '68 XT Falcon. The wheelbase is longer, on the Fairlane/Torino pan making for the bigger tray. I think the XT front bodywork will fit mine....not that I'm considering it for one moment. Here's a comparo to the Aussie XT Falcon ute.

all our local cars were heavily influenced by chev and ford, they used to rotate their design boys out here for a bit of experience. it wasn't until the 70's that gmh and ford aus got clear of the heavy influence but you can still see it in the Q's and xd's etc

Dig that '66 Ranchero.....that car might even coax me into a ford    XT GT bonnet scoop, GT grille and there you have an XT GT ute. BEWDIFUL mate
