XL 500 help please
« on: December 04, 2013, 05:34:13 pm »
Hi guys
Does anyone know an engineer in Australia (preferably Sydney) who is able to line bore and fit needle rollers to the cylinder head on these just like Wiseco?

Thanks
DOK

Hi Carl?
I'm not 100% on which Curly is which.
I would have replied to you txt but it would take me a week to write it.
What model 500 are you looking for and do you want a restorer or racer.
I have an S (first model I want to keep) SA, SB and RC.
I total I have 5 with 4 needing heads done up so if you can find out if the guy in Qld still does them we could probably give him a couple of weeks worth of work.
Do you know if Peter Campbell or Chris Dowd have ever done xl heads?

Thanks
DOK
PS give your mate my mobile number and I will tell him what I've got.

Now I've got a fairly empty shed, I was looking at an XL175 that needs this done too.
Any info much appreciated.
Any idea what it costs? Might end up being worth more than the whole bike......  :-\

I got my '76  XL350 head modified to fit the roller bearing cam. It was done in Ballarat but it wasn't cheap.... Mind you, I got new valve seats, guides and the relief hole welded as well, which then required the head to be decked. It cost me around $650. OUCH! But, at least I know I won't be flogging out another hard to get XL head  ;D

I believe Stackers MC's in Dandenong do the job too. Not sure on the pricing there.
Arrogance.....A way of life for the those that having nothing further to learn.

Yes Craig I have some Honda's ! Their not in my shed, I store them in my mates shed !

The guy that was doing them works or worked at Waggot Cams in Lismore.

Not Wade Cams
