YZ 400 D wanted
« on: November 12, 2013, 02:04:51 pm »
Hi there

I am chasing the following for a 77 400D

Set of side panels in white
RHS footpeg and mount
Clutch cable holder that bolts to the bottom of the barrel
+ 0.75 piston and rings.
Pipe and muffler
Possibly a carby

Let me know if anybody has anything spare, don't have much spare from this bike to swap other than a set of 400D cases with sprocket damage, or I have a 77 DT400 motor in good condition, not sure how much (f anything) is interchangeable, but cases are same shape.

Cheers

best option re side panels for the 'D' is VMXunlimited Australia or DC plastics USA. the DC components are the real deal with exact point drilled holes and grommet placings. from my experience with 'D' projects, the right side was usually melted from exhaust so will be hard to get originals for this bike. TIP:- wrap exhaust in heatproof wrap available from most engineering/welder shops.

Most of the bottom end stuff on the 400's is interchangeable. The main differences are the gear sets, clutch plates (number of)/friction plates/springs. Top end is totally bland on the DT400. Barrels are different in port timing, pistons also different. All this can be changed to make pretty close to the real thing (YZ).

YZ250D and YZ400E gear sets are the same. For the matter so will IT250D and 400D gear sets fit but different gear spread. YZ250E are different all together.

With a bit of time the DT400 can be jazzed up a lot. Or just keep it as a parts donor.

Clutch cable holder that bolts to the bottom of the barrel is the same on the DT250/400 YZ250/400 and IT250/400 for 1977 and 1978.
