Any thing special i should know about TM front spokes ?
« on: June 01, 2008, 09:12:07 pm »
took the old girl out to the DT Today for a shake down only to lose a spoke ( well it still there but wont tighten up and rim feels a bit wobbly to me any way.

IF i measure it up its like 200mm with a right angle, maybe HD added later but just wanted to know if i pull the wheel out if i should be asking for a certain other model that uses em and is priced right aka more modern spoke ?

and yes before you ask alison there was side cars there... and here is pic to prove they exsist and not quite extinct yet, i think there was 5 ? and the chap that won was the guy that has won the fink a few times on a honda, and second was dave tomlinson, wasp 650 ?

oooo and i spend most of the day taking to some younger chap from holland who's flown out to ride the fink for the GHR team ? honda mob from mittagong i think he said, any how he had some nice photos in his bag thingo of his reto race bsa 40 and his works KTM sxs very bling, he was saying some of his mates are ridding the paris -D but at 70K entry fee he couldnt raise the coin so he decided to do this one instead,   and we complain about $50 race meets. then again i guess we get a $2 plastic trophy so it al works out huh.. ::)

any how back to the important stuff -- > spokes heads up ?  doC ?  ??? are they normal off the shelf things

...but at 70K entry fee he couldnt raise the coin...

70K entry fee? As in $70,000.00 to enter a race?!
At that price it's not about the fun or the experience is it?
That's insane.

id say its infrastructure all they red tape etc, and like the  finke is limited numbers ( finke is 500 i think cause they came home in the dark on the back day.     there was a lady from the UK who had done the Paris -d a few tiime and had spend all up about a million pounds over the years before she finished one.    IMagine all the other cost like, pit crew, fuels parts etc its mind blowing logistically.

amd yes ali you need smooth tyre for Dirt track not knobblies allowed  ;)

Yeah Freaky, I AM thinking of the logistics.
That's what surprises me; the logistics I expect to cost a motza!
Flights, freight, pit crews, tucker, support vehicles and teams, spare parts and on it goes.
An entry fee is just an entry fee.

Ah whatever, I'm obviously out of my depth as I had no idea that sort of coin is required just to enter.
I've had a coffee - I'm OK now.

$70k to do the Dakar on a bike sounds about right to me.... Not "I think it's a bargain and everyone should do it" right - More "based on what I've heard it costs to do in a car" right.

One of the NSW rally guys went to have his second shot at it in a buggy this year. Cost him a f$%king truck-load to not do the event, even though his entry fee and car hire were refunded.... He's got cash that most of us can only dream about, and it still made his eyes water.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Freaky I doubt any of the modern stuff would interchange but there is no reason why something else can't be used for replacement. If it fits use it no matter what it is from..I needed a couple of inner spokes for the SL100 rear wheel the other day..hmmm..after a bit of rummaging around it turns out 1965 Suzuki 80 spokes are a good fit and now my wheel is beaut again. Nothing special about spokes but if they are sus, bent, badly rusted or won't tighten then an ebay spoke kit for around $50 is probably as cheap as they get. bottom line..no, nothing special, they are either broken or not broken, tight or loose and a replacement will either fit or won't fit. Shortening can work out as expensive as a complete kit unless you have a friend in the know or can do it yourself. Sometimes you may have to pull out 3 other spokes to get a 1 new spoke in >:( relacing wheels isn't difficult though and it's very rewarding and looks bling but time consuming ;) if you don't have samples and need a complete kit made from scratch then this is when it can get technical.

KEwl. its 200mm so ill pull it and go on a spoke hunt, i just didnt know if it was a special angle or a stupid lenght and i like to know that before i pull all the wheels apart only to find they are some stupid size, not know to man.

try zooki altenatives first might cut down the search..TS250/400/DR250/500/early RM...something will interchange. I'd like to say specifically which models but with suzuki they sold spokes in 'sets' and not individually, hence a part number for a spoke set won't cross reference even though possibly half the spokes for 1 side at least is the same as something else. IF they had sold them all individually then it would save the searching. I reckon you'll find something pretty easy.
