Wanted Yamaha 125 radial head and Skunk suspension kit
« on: September 14, 2013, 09:03:47 pm »
Hi gents Im building an electric start DT125 , don't pee your self laughing . In the early 70's I had one of these and one has followed me home again . In 74 mine had a DG radial head , DG down pipe and a Skunk suspension system . Ok I was young and stupid but it was my first proper bike so Im after a radial head and If by any chance you have a Skunk kit laying around ( you know you will never use it as the others will take the piss out of you for years ) Iain

Had one myself & loved it. Were quite quick & had a smaller starter generator rotor than the earlier piston port AT1FE from 1969/70. This gave a lighter flywheel effect on this later model plus the reed valve etc. This motor was the first of the next generation of motor with that hardcase gearchange short shaft on the 100/125/175 that went into a grease filled small cover on the left to step it up to the main change shaft. Anyway--no need for me to tell you eh, you're there doing it now!!, i just have a soft spot for these old girls. [DT125EA over here in nz]. Put a 175 top end on & wheely off into the distance. Good luck. ps, the charging system causes quite an electrical drag [electric brake effect] while it's charging. Always was going to put a switch on the bars to break the charging circuit & double the horsepower when required [passing mates etc]. 12 volt battery would go for ages if only kick started, then flick the switch for the cruise home from trail riding to charge up battery. Cheers.

I would think the Skunkworks suspension linkages would be easy to make, I've thought about it.

thanks for that skunk link, i've been saving some front suspension arms of my old yamy v90 step through scoot for just that purpose so the plan from years ago is re-activated, especially now i've seen the video. Cheers.

I just saw on the Vital MX forum that a guy called 'Redman' has a brand new set of Skunkworks linkages still in the box!

ianiyz, we used to pump our tyres up to the max inflate spec stated the tyre cause we thought it would make us go faster similar to our pushbikes. took a long time to work out....
