driving record Sydney to Perth?
« on: September 01, 2013, 09:51:01 am »

Good Morning my dirt riding brothers!

Here's a brain teaser for you, "what is the driving record Sydney to Perth"?  I here the interstate truckers claim they do it in 72 hours with TWO drivers etc, so what is it in a car?  I spoke with a journalist about a 100 years ago who claimed he and two other drivers, so three of them, in a 351 Falcon did it in something like 39 hours or some such, anyone know of anything like it and if there is an official time?

HAPPY FATHERS DAY BOYS!
kT.

Left Penrith ( 1 hr west of Sydney ) at 4am on the 25/10/2008 and stopped at Port Augusta SA at 6pm   14 hrs

Left Port Augusta at 2am on the 26/10/2008 and reached the outskirts of Perth at midnight.  22 hrs

Mate did 2 x 2 hr shifts on the second day

Did this trip in a brand new Iveco Daily table top. Tried to average 130 kph to allow for stops and towns.

Average speed turned out to be 110. 3,950 klms div by 36 hrs = 110kph. Easily achievable when you see the road.

Had to be at Perth airport by 7am the next morning to start the fit out of a drug testing facility for airport staff.

Once made Penrith to Orange in 1 hr 59 mins 200 klms.

Thanks Ted, thats aboutwhat i thought time-wise, average 110kph is pretty good i reckon!

As an aside i just had my brother drive Broome to home here, also in Penrith, 5400k total, left last saturday got home here 8pm friday night!!! big effort on your own  reckon!  We were just discussing a ride to Perth and back, on push-bikes!!!! a life-long ambition of mine was/is to cross the Nullabor on a pushy, we shall see........

Don't believe the BS about the Nullaboar Plain being a desert. For the most part of it the coastline is no more than a kilometre to the south and in full view when driving. It will amaze you how much traffic is doing the same trip. You will pass, be overtaken or overtake another vehicle every 5 to 10 mins also. I wouldn't of thought so, but SA is easily the most scenic part of the trip.

Two guys from Blackbutt did Briz to Perth in 30hrs flat in their Transam and a guy from Dalby did it in 32hrs with his Alsation as co driver in a Mazda RX something.
This was during the Gumball rally back when.
I have done Briz to Perth in 60hrs with 2 drivers.
Nearly killed us.

I remember the story as being 3 guys from Wheels did the journey in a brand new XC 302 Fairmont in 30 hours, averaging 140 kph with no real stops. Thats my memory but it was a while ago!

Two mates of mine did Rouse Hill( Sydney) to Perth in a brand new Isuzu 550 fitted with a huge pan body and loaded with a sprint car and all the other stuff they needed. 10pm Wednesday left, arrived in Perth 4pm Friday, that's 42 hours. Only stopped for diesel and burgers.

The Wheels magazine did a later article in the early 80s in an Alfa, and got their Syd-Perth time down to 26 or 28 hours.

My best story is leaving Bedourie at 4:30pm, and getting to Yass just before midnight the next evening. Just shy of 2,000km in less than 30 hours. That included a sleep at Windorah, cause the standard headlights were not good enough...
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.
