Does anyone know how to set clutch springs on a 1980 yz465 as I'm new to clutch side of things.

Hi, not adjustable as such, just put them in & do em up [unless i misunderstood your worries] Cheers. ps, in saying that--i had a 465g brand new but don't recall ever having the clutch cover off although [think it was mine] the kick start shaft hole in the cover got fairly flogged out & could move the shaft up n down a reasonable amount--this never gave trouble although not desirable like that. Getting back to the clutch--if i'm thinking right & the end pressure plate has a center adjuster in it then the arm on the left that cable fits on should line up [approx] to a casting mark to [i suppose] give a good angle of pull for the cable. This angle can be aligned by using the adjuster on the pressure plate. If your [old] cable is getting a bit out on the cable adjuster then you could probably adjust the arm a bit further back before the mark to help the cable length, just don't go 'so' far that things get bottomed out in there somewhere. Sorry, someone might be more up to date on these without going into a bloody essay. Cheers.--now where's me pic of my 465. Fires going--i'll squirt some Castrol R in & reminisce.

It will out line it in the manual if you have one .
On my Yamaha TT500 the manual says just tighten the spring bolts down tight ( no spec how tight )
but don't tighten them to tight because they will strip easy.
TED on here has a 465 he might be more help ;)

shouldn't put this up here i suppose but but found me dear old 465g--first ride july "80
Yes, clutch spring screws [10mm hex bolt head] do them up all the way--till firmly done up. [only 6mm thread] but at least not 5mm like my "68 first DT1 [i.e.] easily stretched & broken.

Pic is from Taikorea MX Park [google it--just taikorea should be enough] Think i still had my 125G then & thought the 465 was a bit of a 'camel', albeit a bloody fast one. Haven't been out there for a couple of years but Park is still going strong i think, as a 'day in the dirt' mainly. Cheers.
