Attended the old boys day lunch for past members of the Cessnock Motorcycle Club today, a few drinks and a lot of talk. We have these lunches every 3 months or so just to keep in touch with old mates and one of the things we spoke of today was the upcoming 90th anniversary dinner in November this year, (1923-2013).
Originally the club was formed in 1913 as part of the Cessnock Motor Club catering for both cars and bikes and the bikes then went alone in 1923.
Like most clubs Cessnock is suffering from low membership with the younger riders in the area preferring to just ride in the bush rather than pay the costs involved when riding in organized events, that they most likely wouldn't be able to afford anyway.
So what is the answer, clubs can't survive without members. There was talk today about looking at insurance etc and just doing it on their own. Anyone got any ideas.
