Hub identification.

Can anyone identify this wheel hub that I got with my Shell 750 Yamaha? The YZ Yamaha conical backing plate fits right up as if it's meant to be there so I'm assuming that it's Yamaha but the overall casting and spoke flange are different to the normal Yamaha conical hub as shown in the below comparo. There is no Yamaha logo in the casting interior, instead the words Umezawa, Made in Japan and CB -18. As you can see the hub is  very Yamaha-ish but it's not something I'm familiar with.

I would say that it was made especially for that bike, std hub maybe not strong enough?

With the cut outs on the out side non drum side it looks like a speedo drive was intended to be used . Iain

Very unlikely John, the Shell uses Barnes spool hubs front and rear. Because it's a mile bike it doesn't use a front brake at all so this wheel is one of the left over bibs and bobs Linda the seller threw in with the bike including a Triumph Bonneville twin leader with an Akront mudcatcher that I'll probably use for dirt track. I'm hoping to use the mystery hub on my 'secret project'  Fasttrack framed TM250 short tracker so I's like to know if it's pre 75 legal, being a stickler for eligibility correctness and all ;) . Photos of that project soon as well.

Below, the brand new Barnes wheels that came with the bike. They have Buchanan stainless spokes and Borrani rims. I received the near perfect originals as well.

The spokes on the non brake side which are on the outside  look like they are laced on the wrong side (if that makes sense) and as Ian said it looks like it had a speedo drive originally, are you sure the its CB-18-101 and not CB-13-101 looks like a 3 in the zoomed in photo not much help I know.cheers Andrew

This is the best thing about this forum, in just about every case someone will know what you need to know 8). Thanks boys, Hodaka it is by the look of the one on eBay. Mine's been laced with a 19" rim so its going on the front of my TM250 flat tracker.......and I can sleep well knowing it's legally pre 75 ;D.
