Gary Shearston RIP

I bet that many of you are thinking "Gary who?" and I suppose it's right, not many folks from my era, let alone anyone younger would remember him. Shearston was an Aussie singer/songwriter who was at his peak in the sixties and seventies. Shearston was a true original who came so very close to hitting the big time in the early 70's but because he was a bit hard to categorise he never quite got there. He had a top 10 hit in Oz in the late 60's with 'Sydney Town' and hit the top 10 in the UK in 1974 with 'I get a Kick Out of You'. I recall seeing him live at Frenches Tavern in Oxford St Sydney in around 1970 or so and the very fact that I actually remember the gig as being great after over 40 years says something of his talent. http://www.noise11.com/news/gary-shearston-dies-at-age-74-20130704
