'Grabby' clutch RM250T
« on: May 28, 2013, 06:46:35 am »
My RM250 has a grabby clutch. I bought this bike a year ago to do duty as a CD ride. At CD9 I had a few teething problems, one of which was a grabby clutch - that is, it doesn't engage smoothly. All or nothing. OK once you get moving but a pain to get moving. Then at a rec ride day late last year it seemed to go quite OK, so I didn't worry about it, but then on the weekend, back to its old ways. I've not taken the clutch cover off but will do when I get a moment. Just wondering if any Suzuki gurus have a suggestion about what I am looking for.

I suspect grooved fingers on the clutch basket, but the fact it did come good has me a bit curious. Could it be the pushrod or actuating lever.

Any thoughts?

Are the push rods ( x 2 of ) that mate against the ball ( between 2 rods   around the right way round... makes a diffence to clutch action.
Has the clutch cam got a deep worn grove ???
If your basket is badly grooved you may need to file them back.  Buy a new plate ... file away making small cuts in fingers making sure all make contact with new plate.

Either the basket has grooves worn in the fingers or the steel plates have been hot and warped. If the basket is ok a new clutch kit usually fixes the problem.

Thanks guys. The obvious thing would be grooved fingers, but if that's not then case I have a couple of good leads with the pushrod arrangement, clutch cam and the steel plates. I think I'll drop a fresh set of plates in anyway.
