I didn't know they made a 21" K180. I bid on it thinking it was a 19" but I'll still find a use for it. I should read the big and small print ::)

No they are not Race Soft
They are DOT Street Legal Tyres from Japan
But they do work Good
And can be Softened to work better,
I am in Newcastle.

Just to clarify a couple of things said on my behalf, this thread was originally about a used tyre posted on ebay. They are what they are, as with any purchase, do your home work before you bid. If you can get them somewhere else new, get them! If you have some to sell, start your own thread!

Cheers,
Steve

Gday steve,
Sorry for helping hijack the thread.
Maybe it could have been made a bit clearer that you were the seller of this tyre.
By the way where are you located and how new is your tyre?
Cheers Brett

no worries brett, it has been fitted once for probably two meetings. first one was when the track was hard and slick the second when it was loose. i agree they are hard and would need softening depending on the track surface. It's located on the sunshine coast so with postage it appears to be over priced for what it is. I wasn't aware there were many around.

Cheers,
Steve

When you guys refer to softening a tyre, do you mean tyre warmers before the race or what else do you do  -something permanent.

Brett, there is some stuff you can apply, pretty sure it's been discussed in another thread or you can cut them etc.

Back in the road racing days we used to use a product called Az-New ... worked like a gem on dry tracks but not so good if it was wet  ;D

I used stuff called Octopus Grip, obtained off eBay Australia for around $50 per litre. I painted it onto both the K180 I got from SON and a Bridgestone wet weather slick I'd had laying around for 12 years and after a couple of weeks I noticed that they're apreciably softer. The idea is to paint a good coating of the stuff all over the tyre and then wrap it in glad wrap and leave it for a few days. If it's not soft enough after that time keep repeating the process until you get the result you're lookingt for. I'm currently doing an old Carlilse flat track tyre as well as giving the Bridgestone another go.
