While the spoken language changes at pace, the written language does also change. States within Australia (which bloody annoys me) has different expectations as to what is acceptable. The spelling of colour and color. Also indentation in paragraphing is now obsolete (much the same as my riding ability). Qld for a while, changed direction and instigated language mode and medium rather than nouns, verbs and adjectives and only recently advised it would return to these as the National Curriculum ( that now has State by State interpretations) has its emphasis in these. Schools now teach to Australian English ( which probably isn't too bad an idea if you listen to the poms on many a tv program). After 35 years in teaching I prefer to spend my non work hours in much more interesting pursuits, so I'm off to the shed to build a rear brake-stay for the godden.
