« on: September 17, 2012, 01:13:47 pm »

Max McAuliffe Wangaratta

My first open motor cross #68

Trevor Williams

Ray Vandenberg

Trevor Brooks. This is the day they took the creek jump out after practice and we linked up around the tree on to the old track.

My trusty old YZ490.

Dejected after coming second to Peter Whitington at the Victorian Country Championchips.

As a junior at Ravenswood.

What a great track Ravo is, it's one of the few tracks I felt at home on. By coincidence I was only talking to 'Mr Ravenswood', Brian Clarke on the phone last night.

I had one of them... you deserve prize money just for riding it!

Hey Hooney you will like this one.
As a Junior/Minibike rider I was riding at the Victorian Country Motox Champs at Warracknabeal. Lunch break came around and Dad pulled out the Barby. When we found that the frypan was not in the car he had a hunt around and found my steel shoe from short circuit. I have a photo somewhere of Dad at the barby cooking sausages for the family in my steel shoe.

Great photos of Ravenswood from the 70's and 80's. THe track while still basically the same has been graded down so far we are hitting rock in a lot of places. After visiting the U.S. and seeing how they continually bring in dirt to resurface the tracks,i have been asking the club to do the same for some time. in Ricks photos you can see the track surface is at ground level, while now its a lot lower in the majority of places. These pics bring back so many memories, especially the jubilee meeting where we jumped the creek, great times.

We are also having to bring in dirt at Broadford, luckily the local housing estate contractors are looking for somewhere to dump the soil, but a big problem is councils are concerned about mixing earth from one area with another.

The creek jump is long gone >:(, Treeglodytes believed the bikes might injure the native  Angora yellow bellied  orange humped sap sucking euro carp so no no no you great unwashed motorcycle filth.
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Love those photos Rick. The track looks awsome, and rough too. THere is a photo in there of Noel Clarke , but Tony was still on Yamahas then also. Im not sure, but he may have even been out still recovering from a broken leg earlier in the year? Where are you TC91, let us know!! i have the program from that event somewhere, i wil try and dig it out. THe triples at the top were not very forgiving, i remember that much..

My first ever open race meeting was in 1977 at Ravenswood & these are the actual photo's taken on the day.

Peter Simmons on the same day, last corner around the tree onto the start straight on his YZ125X.
