Where should one go in SA
« on: February 27, 2013, 07:16:59 pm »
So I'm heading off to the VJMC rally in Victor Harbor, South Oz this March.
Found ourselves with a week up our sleeve, and wondering whether to get around to the Eyre Peninsular - Port Lincoln etc, or whip over to Kangaroo Island.

We normally only cut through the corner of SA on the way North, so have never been to the South end   :-[....seems a reasonable hike around to Pt. Lincoln given the time frame, so thought it worthwhile to ask the brains trust
Anyone have any experiences with either?

Nothing like pulling the map book off the shelf to investigate our Aussie land.  8)
Eyre Peninsula is barren and desolate area this time of year, though nice beach's to fish, swim and with the odd Seal dropping in.  :o
Highly recommend the Clare Valley for historic mansions and our Aussie roots to the shearing sheds, with of course the best white wines in all of Australia.  :P
Getting off the main Hwy and onto the beaten track of Southern Flinders will take some nice winding roads, through Crystal Brook,Burra,Jamestown and Orroroo..
Found cabins a cheaper accomodation.
Enjoy  8)
Best is in the West !!

When's it on MX?
I'd like to go down for a sticky myself.
As for SA, it depends what you're into. The Motor Museum in Birdwood does still have bikes but the rest is pretty interesting too.
There's also a small bike museum in Peterborough if you're into small, rare Euro road bikes.
The Barossa's always good if you like that sort of thing. Plus I've heard there's a bloke there that always up for a few drinks and a session of telling lies.........  ;)
Let me know if you want any more detail.

Well that was quick, glad I asked!
Sounds like KI might be the answer then as we tend to go for the nature thing. Went up through Yunta / Arkaroola last time, so will stick to the Southern end this time.
I'll do some looking into those motor museums as well then.
The rally is on from March 15th to 17th.

Never been to one of the VJMC do's before so expecting it'll be good. Taking the Z9 over and hoping to get some good riding done around the place.

Looks good MX?
We'll be down there at least on Saturday and maybe stay for Sunday as well.
We stay at that caravan park quite regularly and it's a great spot.
I'll pm you my mobile number if you want to catch up for a quiet one.  ;D

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Some of the best reds as well, but then I may be a little biased.

Why do things the easy way, when with a bit of effort you can really make it difficult for yourself!!

if you're riding then why not head to Victor Harbour via Strathalbyn, or go that way on the way back. then you could ride to Lobathal and onto the Birdwood motor museum, they would have to be some of the best roads in Aus to ride... beware of the revenue rasing division of the SA gov though... :D
is there a website for the VJMC day?

If you make it to the motor museum in  birdwood, wonder across thr road from the museum and have a peak in the old motorbike shop. Generally a few treasures in there.
