GYT Kit Era
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:48:09 am »
I've heard mention of an RT-1 GYT kit, but I have not come across one.  The RT-1 came out in 1970, the same year as all of the ?T-1MX models.  Would they have made and sold a GYT for any of the Yamaha enduro models at that point?

After 1971 aren't the performance kits from Noguchi?

Jay, as far as I know GYT kits were available for the entire line from JT1 right up to RT1. My mate Bernie bought a GYT head and pipe back in 71 for his Enduro. I've seen AT1 and CT1 kit items for sale at various times and I've been told that the mini's had similar stuff available for them but can't find anything on them online. Noguchi was a little 'Skunk Works' style part of Yamaha that contributed to the early race effort. The Noguchi MX125 kits were only ever available for the early MX and YZ 100-125-175 to my knowledge and had little to do with the Yamaha factory.

Damn, i only ever thought the GYT Kit was for the original DT1, would have [& still would] loved a kit for the RT1. When the DT2 trail arrived i had to have one but had no kit for it so used the Hi Comp head plus kit pipe & ran it on Alky [methanol i suppose it was] Purple Shell Racing Spirit Special it was called. Had std porting probably the bigger carb & went like hell & was a high rever as well. In hind sight i'd have been better to run the DT1 full kit on the DT2 but think the conrod length would have mucked me up & wouldn't have wanted to pull a 'new' motor apart just for the fun of it. Then the DT2MX came out & solved everything overnight--didn't it.

Firko, did you receive the "personal message" sent while we were away!!, more worried about "did the mail get through trick"  was only me being picky stuck in a motel & bored!!, no problem regarding a reply. Just a yes or no will cover it. Must learn to use these whatever they're called [emoticon] things--look like fun.  Have good day. Very hot here--as if you don't know what hot is!! haaa. Came back from auckland across the 'Napier Taupo' highway yesterday just for a change & the 'Tarseal' was 'so' melting for about 50k that it was virtually a black sea of floating tar plus very hilly. We stopped [went back] to see if a 3 wheeler cyclist wanted help--said he's ok & resting but was a 64 year old Canadian cycling through th country on one of those 'lay back & feet stretched forward 3 wheelers. Lost sleep worrying about that last night, hope he's ok. Sort of put me in my place--lazy bastard in an aircon'd [albeit old 5 cylinder honda vigor shitta] car. Got a pic i'll try & load up here plus my other crap i was going to do. Gave him my address & cell phone number, hope he stops in but will be a week before he gets this far. Was just thinking [apart from the physical side] it's bloody dangerous if say one was on the limit [boy racer--or me!!] & come upon him mid corner. Cheers.
