Yes I probably do need to get out more as it has been a while since I have been to a Trial. It sounds like it has got a lot more competitive since I last looked.
I do know a couple of guys that rode the Classic Class at least a few years ago and their bikes seemed more 50’s based which is how I remember it.

There is a sub group of Pre65 Classic Trials which is 'rigid' being no rear suspension ::). This goes back to the period in the late 50's early 60's when many trials riders believed that rear suspension was actually a disadvantage in Trials. There is no actual seperate championship class as far as I know.

Maybe I've missed some reasoning in all of this but those modern interpretations of "pre 65" Bantams, James and Villiers have no relationship with proper vintage competition. I'm presuming that they're doing the same mods to these bikes as the Poms, as seen in Classic Dirt Bike magazine. If that's true, the classic/twin shock trials community has lost its way.
The BSA Bantam shown below has bares no resemblence to anything that competed in the day.

It's not quite as crazy here in pre 65 as it is in the UK. That one pictured would not pass eligibility (in my opinion) in OZ because:
Frame not pre 65 or a visual replica of pre-65
Triple clamps not pre-65 or a visual replica of pre-65
Not sure about the fork sliders and wheel hubs, but being listed as "major" items, like the frame and triple clamps, they need to be pre 65 or externally indistinguishable from pre-65
