« on: October 16, 2012, 03:41:00 pm »
Hi all,

Having problems with my 84 wr not shifting out of first gear when it gets hot, but it does not shift vary well when cold?

Any help from husky land.

Thanks Chris.

Bent, broken or worn shift mechanism. Acess from behind the clutch cover, easy change over. Buy some spare ones.

Make sure the clutch cable is adjusted correctly. My 84 WR 240 is a mongrel to shift if the cable is too loose. It becomes almost impossible to select neutral when hot. Once cable adjusted properly it behaves itself again!

Take of clutch cover and try shifting through the gears with a spanner on the selector drum to see if there is any sticking going on inside the transmission also. Are the other gears OK or is it just first?

I will try the clutch cable it may be not adjusted correctly.
The only problem is first gear.

Leave both the kickstart  and gearshift levers on their shafts when removing the clutch cover.
Makes life a lot easier. ;)

Might be a bit late but dont forget to adjust the clutch rod in the clutch (with the pin) to factory specs. A lot of people are unaware of this internal adjuster.

I also put on a Husky parts longer clutch lever and its like butter to use and takes plenty of abuse.
