Honda CR480 Vintage MX Bike 1981
« on: October 08, 2012, 11:24:45 pm »
"This bike was built as a tribute to the 'works' machine of the time and so qualifies for the class"

What class in Australia (other than Pre-85) can this be ridden in, given its being offered for sale in Australia?
Will Ohlins operate when inverted?
58mm Flat Slide Kehnin carb?

Am I missing something, specifically as its an OS sale and the seller has a zero seller score?

You'd have to ride it in pre 85, the shocks work either way but it ads extra unsprung weight to the rear end running them in that position.
The '81 motor was a 450 which had major clutch/transmission problems, hopefully it's an '82 480 engine.
58mm must be a mistake, probably means 38mm carb.

I took from the description that the bike is in NZ where they have no rules. (insert stirring the pot smiley here)

Having run the modern Ohlins on a 78-80 CR250 frame you have to trim the upper mount and watch your placement of the silencer or you end up with dings in the reservoirs.  He probably didn't want to take a grinder to the frame and just mounted them that way.

I have seen three of these type RC replica bikes at races over the years.  Cool looking, but I guess the purest comes out in me when I see bikes that could not have existed during the era they are targeted for.  I can however appreciate the beauty and the effort.
