the designated 74 model was the DT360A.
the DT400B was 75 and the DT400C 76.
if they were released earlier ( i don't know), the 400 was designated as a 75 model and onwards.
cheers :)

Gets very confusing when you start researching web sites like this one and they give years of release is it deemed like todays bikes when you by a 2013 bike half way through 2012.

You will find that most of the manufacturers will release the next year’s model between July and September the previous year. That’s why you run into the issue where you can have a 2012 model bike with a compliance plate dated 07/2011
QA50 KO, XR75 K5 Race bike from VMBA days, XR400R1, CRF450R3, RM400T, DR650SE with off road adventure mods, MX360A, YZ400D, YZ465H, IT250H, 1985 Jawa 897 Slider, 2016 Jawa/GM Slider

The 1974 DT360 weighed in about 285 lb wet ... with no real 'race' motor.
You'd be an iron man to race one :)

How does the suzi ts400 1976 get included as a follow on model rule 18.5.4.9 when it has a different frame, barrel, piston and head, and the yamha dt400 does not get the same follow on even when it was made and sold in 1974 whether it was designated a 75 model or not.

Rule link:   http://www.ma.org.au/fileadmin/user_upload/Documents/MOMS/2012_MoMS_Folder/18_Classic_MX___Dirt_Track.pdf

Am I looking at the current rules here.

Simply because Suzuki had a Ts 400 in 1973 and the 76 Ts 400 is classified as a flow on.
Did Yamaha have a designated Dt 400 prior to 1975  .... read Vandy post
or ask this mob

mav the DT400B is a 1975 model, regardless of the date of manufacture. It was not a 1974 model, that was the DT360A. Now, as far as the rules go, there is allowance for 'follow on' models but this has only been ratified for some bikes which are specified in the MoMS. The DT250B is a follow on for the simple reason there was a DT250A and there are few differences between the two.

There would certainly be opinions one way or the other, but at the end of the day the bottom line is that the DT400B is a 1975 model that is not designated as a follow on. It is therefore ineligible to race in the Pre 75 class.

Yes  one of the Melb Yamaha dealers had a kit in 75 to do just that it was a bit of work to do . A far better way is a mx 360 cylinder and dt head for enduro this will give extra power without the high compression . Iain
