82 XR500R long range fuel tank
« on: April 28, 2013, 03:48:40 pm »
Hey

Does anybody know what long range fuel tank will fit onto an 82 XR500R, or has anyone adapted one to suit?
Apparently the Paris-Dakar fuel tank/seat combo fit but are very hard to come by.

Thanks

Back in the day they used the open road type universal tank's,dunno what the capacity was though :),there were lots of them sold, try the wreckers you may get one cheap, nobody wants them now, they are bloody ugly but better than pushing ;)

Did anyone build a specific tank for that model?

Hi Redrider. Did you end up finding a tank for your XR500 ? While I was having a look in my shed the other day, I stumbled across 2 long range aftermarket tanks and thought that I would post a pic up here for anyone who might be interested in them. I think that the one on the left is an Open Road (?) and the one on the right is a Malcolm Smith. The tank on the left is missing the fuel tap and the MS tank has what looks like a Husky fuel tap. I was hoping to get $50 for the tank on the left and $75 for the MS. I can bring them with me to CD10, if anyone is interested.
