Shocks for '81 Maico?
« on: July 23, 2012, 09:22:08 pm »
Mate has an '81 Maico 250 MXer, with a set of under-performing Fox Airshox on it.
Seeing as the Fox Shocks are worth a fair bit, he's looking at selling them and buying something new.

His short list is Wilbers, Ohlins and YSS.

Any input?

Nothing?
He's looking spending $1500ish, and we can't even get a sales-pitch?

Has he got the airshox working properly? He could get a rebuild kit and tune them up for a fraction of what he's looking to spend.

He's not entirely happy with the Fox Shox for a number of reasons, not just the not-yet-sorted performance.

This is also intended to be a 'to the grave' bike for him, so he's not overly fussed about the cash.

WOW there is a lot to go at there....

Fox ~ shame he isnt happy.  Some people love them.  Others will never love them.

If he wants to keep trying almost everything is available; the most compresensive seal kit ever with every seal, wiper, O ring, nylon rin etc etc etc.  Bladders.  Bodies.  Brass nuts etc.

Or if he wants Ohlins, then there will shortly be new Ohlins in boxes available to suit the 490, built to the original specs etc etc.  They will be ready for collection at the VMxDesNations at Farleigh or can be posted at cost.

Also available will be Ohlins to suit the Red Rocket.  Built to original factory specs.  They will not be a modifed Maico unit or other Ohlin to match the specs, they will be new builds using new parts.

YSS offer fantastic shocks, so have a look there.  WP and WORKS shocks also offer some beautiful products.  You can go crazy if you want!

I should have said;

490 shocks (factory built, new in the box) £620

Red Rocket shocks (factory built, new in the box)  £880

Available in very limited numbers, so if you'd like a set, let me know.

I just put a set on my GP maico and I'm happy with them. It looks to be a very well built shock. I likey! I have a 78 maico 250 that I'm going to put 42mm forks with the 81 swingarm on and this is the shock I'm going to use. DG
