Noel, it's a G2 not C2. They were available in 1959 so that's all you need for pre 60 eligibility, although I don't think the CSR version came out until the early 60's. The only problem I can see is them being so bloody slow, being a Brit 250. They'll out drag the Bantams though (just) ;D

Matchless G2 1958-66, 248cc ohv single, 330lb, 66mpg, 70mph. At a time when most other manufacturers were going to unit-construction, AJS produced this single, which retained a separate gearbox. Employing butterfly valve springs & an oil tank in the engine case casting it was a brave attempt, which never succeeded. Heavy for a lightweight the handling improved with the AMC front forks on later models. The 14CSR was the sports model with improved styling & suspension.

These bikes were always regarded as the runt in the AMC litter, when lined up against the 350/500 trials bikes, the g80/85cs scrambler desert sled and the csr road bikes. The tiddler was made in scrambles form, though castigated for even having a battery... More weight. On the plus side they are usually dirt cheap and with some pruning you might be able to make something different - I recommended them for this reason a few years ago on the budget brit bike thread, trying to show one in its best possible light with this excellent detail photo:
